Activities of TPF

TPF is instrumental in highlighting the plight of workers’ miseries through its direct intervention as well as the impact created by its activities indirectly. Tirupur People’s forum is active for the past 5 years by actively involving in the following areas:

  • Defending the rights of women workers of textile and garment industry confined under camp labour scheme (Sumangali scheme) victims through monitoring, campaigning and advocacy actions
  • Safeguarding the interests of internal migrant workers engaged in garment and textile industry through counseling, organizing, training and help line services 
  • Promoting the rights of downstream farmers affected by garment industrial pollution by organizing, monitoring, campaign and advocacy action while working for the protection of environment in and around Noyyal River Basin
  • Developing information base through research studies on Sumangali Scheme, Environmental impact of garment industrial pollution, documenting case studies of Sumangali Scheme victims, Status of women victims of  Sumangali Schemes in Source region, Infrastructure study on Tirupur region and survey on child labour besides publishing books, poems and literary reflections on the core issues for which the forum fights constantly.
  • Training, capacity building programmes and consultations on internal migrant workers, camp labour schemes and environment are carried out among NGOs, trade unions, lawyers, women groups, farmers, media personnel, literary persons, activists and academics
